ELSE 2020-12-01 17:29:2110 Tips for Newbies Reading through some of the posts I can see how a lot of newbies have FOMO (fear of missing out). Post after post of losers making huge returns. Everyone is getting rich but you. Boofuckinghoo. The smart investor realizes it’s all hype. Some of it works, most of it doesn’t. To be successful you need to be able to recognize the difference and to do that, you need time, knowledge and practice. Here are ten tips that can help you along the way. Tip 1 - You don’t know shit You’re going to lose your money. Don’t get suckered by reading posts about guys who made 1000% return in 5 minutes. For every one guy that posts his massive gains, 100+ suckers have lost their money. The first lesson to realize is that it’s way easier to lose money in the market than to make money. Tip 2 - Understand how money flows in the market Money moves from the idiots to the knowledgable, from the impatient to the patient. Any dummy can make money short term. But to make money long-term and truly grow a portfolio, you have to be armed with knowledge and a shit ton of patience. Tip 3 - Play for the long term The most important rule you need to follow religiously is NEVER FUCKING LOSE MONEY. Print it big, tape it to your wall. Your top responsibility is protecting your capital. YOLO is a stupid play. 99% of you are going to bet at the wrong time with the wrong stock. Calm the fuck down and work on a long term strategy. You have decades dummy. Tip 4 - Time is on your side, but not much else The market never stops. The machine just churns and churns. Rich to poor, poor to rich, it just keeps on turning and turning. There are ALWAYS opportunities. Another IPO. Another MEME turd. FOMO is for fools. Miss a run? Big fucking deal. There’s another one around the corner. You have plenty of time to learn, test, and grow your capital. Tip 5 - Paper Trading Paper trading is a simulation. It behaves exactly like a real account with real active data but it’s all practice. No real money exchanges. It’s a great way to learn, to see how shitty you’re going to do without losing a penny. DO THIS FOR TWO YEARS. Take whatever capital you have right now and buy some long term ETFs or solid ass stocks with minimal risk. Keep adding to it EVERY paycheck. Build up some capital for when you’re ready to trade for real. Take two years to learn how to trade, watch your paper portfolio go to zero a couple dozen times, read and follow the news, WSB, Stocktwits, etc. Ask questions, test out your strategies. You’ll thank me two years from now. Tip 6 - Understand taxes Big difference between short term and long term capital gains. Uncle Sam loves you short timers. Paying taxes is for suckers. Tip 7 - No one knows shit There is no crystal ball, no one has the “inside track”, and only believe 10% of what you read. Be very fucking skeptical. About everything. Social media, analysts, CEOs, news, all if it, be fucking skeptical. It’s all manipulation. Don’t even trust Buffett. You are the guardian of your capital. Everyone wants to take it it away from you. Understand that and you won’t get suckered so easily. Tip 8 - Learn to read fundamentals and understand valuations As much as the market today feels like a casino, the underlying foundation of the market is investing, not gambling. With every stock you buy you’re buying a piece of a business. Learn to read fundamentals. Do they make money? Are they growing? Do they have debt? How are their competitors valued? Do they make more money today than they did 5 years ago? How will they make more? How do they return capital to shareholders? And on and on and on. Learn motherfuckers. Earnings per share. P/E rations. Intrinsic value. Net income. Figure out formulas for valuing stocks. Is TSLA worth over 250x earnings? Is WFC undervalued at 13x earnings? Investing blindly because big_dick_loser said so in a post is beyond idiotic. Just burn your money, you’ll have more fun. Tip 9 - Get rich schemes are for suckers Remove the bookmark for Ferrari. You ain’t getting one anytime soon. Play fucking smart. Go long. Think in decades, not days. You’re not smart enough to day trade and beat the system. Not long-term anyways. Most of you won’t beat the market over 10 years. So be fucking smart. Paper trade until you can consistently prove gains month after month. When you’re ready to trade for real, dip in slowly. Fuck FOMO. Fuck YOLO. Remember, time is on your side. Compound that shit. Tip 10 - Discipline and dedication Like anything in life, to be successful you have to fucking work at it. Easy money never lasts. Dig in, learn, practice, rinse and repeat. Be motivated to learn how to invest, take the time to study, read, test and constantly improve. Be disciplined with your money. It’s fucking hard to make, easy to lose. Protect that shit. For those of you this resonates with, you’ll be fine long term. Do the fucking work. For those of you who love chasing the fantasy, good luck, I mean it. It’s a tough fucking pill to swallow watching your account get dwindled down to zero. Nothing tastes worse that losing all your money. Peace. submitted by /u/ac34842 [link] [comments]

ELSE 2020-12-01 20:33:18A Stock Shout-out/Kudos To You All! This is one of my first posts, but I read a lot of posts in this subreddit as I am very new to investing! I currently hold NIO, DKNG, PLUG, PLTR, ICLN, HSTIX, GE, TSLA (which I bought from selling some NIO before the dip today). I wanna say thank you for all of the support and advice you have posted on everyone else's posts, comments, responses. As I mentioned this is one ofy first posts, but I spend hours reading through people's posts, others comments to them, and rebuttals. I have learned so much in a short amount of time it's amazing! You all have helped me learn a lot and you have also helped me beat my anxiety of not selling and holding through tough RED days like today. Hearing people talk about FOMO and holding on or selling to soon has really helped me teach myself patients and diligence before trading. I think I lost around $600 today ($10k portfolio) and before reading a lot of your advice I would have sold today. It's reassuring hearing advice from "normal" people instead of a broker or someone who has a benefit to giving you advice. This is getting very unorganized now so I'll stop typing but again, thank you thank you thank you for all the great advice! submitted by /u/PersonalityDue7038 [link] [comments]

ELSE 2020-12-02 00:30:45$CRM - Sales Force So I got into this one a bit back at $267/share and ever since then it’s just not performing. I know much of it has to do with COVID, but what does everyone else think? Even with the prospects of the acquisition of Slack, it still doesn’t seem to be going up. I don’t intend to be with them for long, they were just a company I took a shot on. As the virus improves and work conditions improve, I’ll return to work and likely go back to blue chips solely, of which I wouldn’t consider CRM as a stable investment anyway. ELSE 2020-12-03 09:10:23Positivity for newbies without a lot of $ to invest Hey! I'm pretty new to this, but if you are too and you're anything like me, you've probably seen a lot of people talking about how they've bought 300 shares of this, dropped $2k on that, have six figures in ETFs, etc. I've even seen a couple comments scoffing at people who only have a couple hundred to invest. I dunno about you, but it can get frustrating and disheartening. So I just wanted to take a minute and say: you're doing great just by getting started! It really doesn't matter how much money you have. Sure, the more you can invest, the more you can (potentially) gain, but any profit is profit. If you want to get into trading like a lot of people do here, it's perfectly okay to start with $100, buy a share or two in something that seems reliable yet cheap, make like $5, sell it, rinse and repeat. You can work your way up to doubling or tripling your initial investment by just buying a good stock on a red day, waiting a few days, and selling when it's in the green by a few dollars. It's not as glamorous or fast as people talking about their $10k gains in a day but it is profit, it can be faster than long-term investing when you're just getting started, and it does allow you more money to play with without having to put in more of your own. And if you want to start investing long-term, any amount is a great amount. $100 in a savings account might make 0.20% APY, like what my bank offers. $100 in ETFs could get you ~10% annual returns. $10 in a year doesn't sound like much, but it's a massive improvement over 20¢. (And you'll almost definitely put aside more than $100 year to year anyway, but you get the point.) All in all, any profit is profit, the best amount to trade with is anything you can afford to lose, the best time to start long-term investing is always immediately, and it's perfectly fine if all you're making is a few dollars trading or investing. The important part is that you're getting started, so don't get discouraged! Best of luck to all of us =) p.s. Also, IMO, short-term trading is okay! As long as you know the risks (yes, even of meme stocks) you can treat this as a game or a casino or whatever you want. Like someone else here said, this is /r/stocks, not /r/investing. At the end of the day it's your money, and sometimes stupid-seeming risks will make way more profit overnight than safe long-term investments will in years, and sometimes you'll lose your life's savings in a day and wish you'd just gone the investing route with $VOO or something. Do whatever you're comfortable with, don't listen to anyone scoffing about what investing has become. (Although, I guess, take what I've said with a grain of salt too! I am probably just as new as you ;b Feel free to correct me on anything as well!) submitted by /u/sanguineicarus [link] [comments]

Tesla shares have soared more than 500% in the last 12 months, and the electric vehicle firm—which Musk leads as chief executive—logged its fifth straight quarterly profit, produced a record 145,000 vehicles in the last quarter, and has averaged more than 50% sales growth over the last three years. Later this month, Tesla will join the S&P 500 stock market index. Musk also heads Neuralink Corp., which is developing implantable brain-machine interfaces, and Boring Co., which builds tunnels to alleviate traffic congestion (and occasionally sells flamethrowers). “Arguably, that’s Elon’s greatest asset, that he’s just a little bit abstracted from everybody else’s relatively realistic pedestrian thinking,” Nusca says. Another advantage is Musk’s “deep, deep conviction that what he’s doing [is] the right thing to do,” Nusca said, citing Musk’s embrace of electric vehicles and his ambition to colonize Mars. submitted by /u/coolcomfort123 [link] [comments]
ELSE 2020-12-03 15:57:52Lululemon (NASDAQ: LULU) Analysis Business Overview Lululemon is a popular clothing brand that designs and distributes apparel. The company relies on suppliers and manufacturers to make their apparel. Lululemon also sells fitness-related accessories (headbands, yoga mats, etc). In the company’s 10-k, the word “sweat” is quoted, referencing the company’s goal to build a community of people through living the “sweatlife.” Historically, Lululemon’s typical customers are women or people with a connection to fitness. Fitness is often referred to in the company’s 10-k. Lululemon is extremely popular among women and there are companies trying to copy them. Lululemon references Nike, Under Armour, Adidas, Gap (Athleta), and Victoria Secret’s Sport Collection. Lululemon operates 491 stores in 17 countries. This is an increase of 128 stores since 2016. The company added 51 stores in 2019 through 2020 alone. Lululemon also recently acquired Mirror, an at-home fitness startup. This is an interesting acquisition and it’ll be interesting to see how Mirror is implemented alongside Lululemon’s mission and what it means for the rest of the business. Competitive Advantages Brand Lululemon has a strong brand among consumers. This competitive advantage could be thought of as similar to Nike’s competitive advantage of having one of the strongest brands in the world. Everyone in the world knows Nike. Most women know Lululemon and possibly more and more men will know Lululemon in the future. Brand can be a strong competitive advantage but can be difficult to pinpoint. Brands can have a strong impact on the competitive advantage of a business when other companies (Athleta) are trying to copy Lululemon but compete on price instead of brand or quality. Economies of Scale Because Lululemon is a big business with relationships with suppliers and manufacturers across the world, the company can negotiate cost savings due to its scale. Lululemon can also employ operating leverage through all of its stores and through its direct to consumer revenue stream. Ecosystem This idea is more out there and probably unrealistic, but Lululemon could have an opportunity to build a community of people obsessed with the brand and cultivate an ecosystem or community of people. The acquisition of Mirror shows that management might be trying to expand into other areas adjacent to their core area of fitness apparel. One quote in the 10-k is “We have a vision to be the experiential brand that ignites a community of people through sweat, grow, and connect, which we call "living the sweatlife." So if Lululemon continues to try and expand into other areas similar to fitness, this could be a glimpse into the future of what Lululemon will look like in 5 years. Tailwinds Digital Fitness COVID-19 has accelerated at-home workout equipment (Peloton) and other startups. More consumers will purchase fitness apparel and could be brought into the Lululemon fan club and purchase a whole closet of leggings, jackets, headbands, or anything else. Digital fitness is a massive market and Lululemon could benefit greatly from this trend by selling more fitness apparel or selling more Mirror equipment. Athleisure This is more of an obvious trend but worth pointing out. Supposedly, Lululemon makes some comfortable professional clothing. The athleisure trend could be shifting into offices in the future. The professional attire market is also big and even just taking a small slice of this market could be meaningful. Direct to Consumer (DTC) One of the most attractive things about Lululemon is its shift to selling products online. This DTC strategy doesn’t rely on stores, has higher margins, and a high growth rate. Many apparel companies are benefitting from the DTC trend. This trend forces companies to rely more on Facebook and Google for advertising but companies can develop a brand image and can own the relationship with consumers from start to finish. For a picture of the DTC revenue line for Lululemon, check out the financial section below. Financials Company-operated stores Grew revenue from $1.7bn in 2016 to $2.5bn in 2020. This is a respectable CAGR of 10.1%. This segment also has operating income margin of ~27% over the past two years. This segment has also had improving margins since 2018. Direct to Consumer Grew revenue from ~$450 million in 2016 to $1.1bn in 2020, an impressive revenue CAGR of 25.0%. This is the most attractive revenue line in my opinion. This segment boasts operating margins of ~42% in 2020, an improvement from 38.8% in 2018. If this trend continues and Lululemon can benefit from operating leverage and pricing power, this revenue segment’s operating margin could continue to improve. Other This line item is sales to outlets, temporary locations, wholesale accounts, and other sales funnels. Revenue grew from $186 million in 2016 to $340 million in 2020. This a CAGR of 15.6%. Still respectable but not meaningful for a Lululemon investment thesis. This segment has operating income of ~21%. Lululemon had total revenue of roughly $4bn with total operating income close to $900 million. Total revenue is growing ~21%. Future Questions If I were to invest in Lululemon, here are some questions I’d want to answer before investing my own capital. Brand Lululemon may put off some people because the company isn’t accepting of all body styles or all groups of people. This could harm the potential customer base and could turn off many potential customers. International Expansion Lululemon has done a good job expanding stores across Europe, China, and the rest of the Asia Pacific region. This could be a huge boost to their revenue and bottom line. From 2019 to 2020, Lululemon opened 51 stores across the world, with 19 coming from Canada and the United States and the remaining openings coming from the rest of the world. Conclusion Lululemon is an attractive company and is actually a 100-bagger since December 2008. Lululemon most likely won’t be a 100-bagger or even a 10-bagger since the company has a market cap of ~$48bn. I know many people (both men and women) who are big fans of Lululemon and oftentimes the best investments have the most dedicated and loyal consumers. Lululemon might fit this bill. I do not have a position in Lululemon. If you want more updates visit Weekly10K.substack.com. If you made it this far, I appreciate you! submitted by /u/Career_Regular [link] [comments]

My value turn around plays have been up 50% in the last 4 months and I’m wondering why people are talking about stocks such as WYNN,MGM Air Canada etc all skyrocketing in value Jesus Christ even Canadian bank stocks have been soaring and you would think it’s the ceiling but I’m consistently waking up to 3-4% days and people are still hooked on PLTR and shit. Like I get it I’m invested in riskier plays like VRYYF and planet 13 but I’m getting the same gains atm from these relatively safer long term value bets because every investor that actually looks into the market is realizing where it’s heading. ELSE 2020-12-03 22:58:33SPWH in a pretty big dip right now - good time to get in? Can't see anywhere for this company to go but up (esp with COVID news and spring approaching). It also seems very undervalued right now with little debt. Does anyone else think that this is a good time to jump in for large gains in long-term? submitted by /u/Psychadelius [link] [comments] Highlight

ELSE 2020-12-03 23:35:22Trying to understand what stocks REALLY are. Am I getting this right? Newbie dumb question: Am I getting this right? It’s my impression there are 2 types of stock, 1) that you just hope grows, 2) that you hope grows some, but tends to grow less, but pays dividends. When a company goes public it sells some shares and keeps some. You and I can buy the latter. Unless the stock is a dividend paying stock, the only real asset we gain is the right to later sell our stock to someone else for any price we can agree to. If we buy into Best Company Ever, and if it’s not a dividend stock, in a way the price of the stock is still completely determined by public perception or hype. Actual value of the company almost doesn’t even matter. If people get fired up by Worst Company Ever, it’s prices will go higher than Best Company’s. In general companies prefer their stock prices go up, because the stock they originally kept and didn’t sell increases in value, giving them a way to reward themselves or generate capital if desired. The only other way stock has a certain value is that if a high enough percentage of it is owned it gives influence or even control about how a company is run, but that’s almost totally irrelevant for all but the super wealthy. Am I close? What am I missing? Thanks! submitted by /u/Kileni [link] [comments] Highlight

Are you buying it just because it seems like everyone else is? What’s so great about Tesla that the stock has gone up over 500% this year. I’m considering buying some Tesla, but it’s so overpriced now. I said that in January 2020 too when I was considering buying it, so I’m dumbfounded at what the hype is about. Even its own CEO knows the stock is inflated. Are people buying it for future innovation and future profits? Do they think it’s going to be the Apple of cars where we’ll say goodbye to gasoline cars for good? Or what else am I missing? submitted by /u/envenome [link] [comments] Highlight

ELSE 2020-12-04 23:56:59Any one else have a Green Day? A few years back I made a dumb decision and threw way too much money (7k)at a weed stock at the company I was working at the time. The stock initially blew up on hype , and subsequently crashed. Since then I’ve been trying to recoup my losses by investing smaller amounts $400-$1000 into things that have a lot of growth for the future, (Arkk, QQQJ, net,). So far I’ve seen some pretty nice gains. Nothing exponential, but small steady growth over a long period of time is what I’m aiming for. I have 12k total invested , and today for the first time am starting to see a reversal in my portfolio from my initial investment and loss. I’m hoping one day the 7k in the weed stock turns into something. I’m still young enough to turn it around (25) so only time will tell. submitted by /u/Intelligent-Pear-783 [link] [comments] Highlight
