SQ (Square Inc.) shares looking great!?
I've made a fair profit in only a week after buying shares in SQ, nearly 5%. I'm not sure when to pull out, if at all. It looks like it's set to remain overall bullish, but I've been hearing a lot about the market crashing. If anyone can look at it and offer some advice, that'd be great! submitted by /u/WoodenStaffy [link] [comments]

NIO, Xpeng, and Li Auto Are Not the Next Tesla. Why It’s Time to Unplug From Chinese EV Stocks
Electric vehicles are the future of the auto industry, so it’s no surprise they have captured Wall Street’s imagination, especially in this pandemic-plagued year when so many other businesses are starved for growth. Consider the rise in the American depositary receipts of three Chinese EV companies—Nio, XPeng, and Li Auto. XPeng ’s ADRs (ticker: XPEV) have tripled, to a recent $44.52, since the company’s Aug. 27 initial public offering, while Li Auto (LI) is up 180%, to $32, from its July 30 IPO. But NIO (NIO), which came public in September 2018, puts both to shame: Its ADRs are up nearly 600%, to $44, spurred by Chinese state subsidies, falling battery costs, and a rebound in car sales in China. It can be hard to part with a stock after such enormous gains, but taking profits in the Chinese EV trio looks like the prudent thing to do. First, all three are richly valued: XPeng trades for more than 15 times 2021 estimated sales. NIO fetches 11 times sales, and Li, about 10 times sales. None will have substantial profits for at least a couple more years. The Chinese EV companies also face several industry, government, and market risks. Chinese state subsidies are falling and could expire, while EV competition is growing in China. Moreover, a recent bill passed by Congress to delist Chinese companies whose accounting practices don’t measure up to U.S. standards could put an unwelcome focus on these companies’ bookkeeping. (See “Delisting Chinese Companies Could Be Bad for Investors. But It’s the Right Thing to Do.”. Then there’s the promise of imminent Covid vaccines, which could hasten the market’s rotation away from high-flying growth stocks and into the beaten-down shares of companies hurt most by the virus’ spread and the global economy’s struggles. That shift began last month, and many market strategists expect it to gather momentum in 2021. A growing awareness of the risks has clipped the shares of NIO, XPeng, and Li by an average of 30% since late November. But more losses could be in store. Motivated by environmental concerns, China has said it wants battery-operated vehicles to total 50% of all vehicles sold in the country by 2035. That’s up from about 5% this year. To accelerate EV adoption, Beijing has ladled out subsidies that total up to 30% of a vehicle’s cost. The government offers subsidies to consumers and Chinese auto manufacturers. It also provides infrastructure support and zero-emission-regulator credit programs, similar to those that benefit Tesla (TSLA), the U.S. EV leader. While all three U.S.-traded Chinese EV companies seek to capitalize on the country’s push toward electrification, each has its own strategy. Shanghai-based NIO, the largest in vehicle sales, will sell an EV without a battery, which it then leases to the car buyer for about $140 a month. That includes six monthly battery swaps at NIO-owned service stations, good for about 1,500 miles of driving. Separating the car and battery purchases makes the cars cheaper, and thus more attractive to buyers. NIO delivered 36,721 vehicles year-to-date, up 111% compared with 2019. The company has sold approximately 69,000 vehicles since its founding in 2014. Like XPeng and Li, NIO sells only in China, although NIO and XPeng plans to sell cars abroad in the future. The company has three models; its best-selling ES6 premium sport-utility vehicle retails for just under $60,000, before subsidies. NIO rang up sales of about $1.8 billion in the past 12 months; analysts see revenue reaching $4.6 billion in 2021. Li Auto, founded in 2015, sells cars with a gasoline generator that can recharge the battery when a plug isn’t available. The Li ONE SUV, the company’s only model, sells for 328,000 yuan or $50,000 before subsidies. Beijing-based Li began shipping late last year; it has delivered 26,498 so far in 2020. The company generated about $775 million in sales in the past year. Analysts project sales of $2.7 billion in 2021. XPeng, headquartered in Guangzhou, sells a sedan and an SUV, and has invested heavily in autonomous driving technology. The company hosted an event in China in October where it compared its self-driving solutions to those of Tesla, a pioneer in the field. XPeng, founded in 2014, has delivered 21,341 vehicles year-to-date, up 87% from last year. The company’s G3 SUV sells for about $25,000 before subsidies, and its P7 luxury sedan retails for about $50,000. Revenue is expected to reach $2.1 billion next year, up 300% from about $530 million in the past 12 months. As these numbers imply, the gains in Chinese EV stocks aren’t entirely undeserved. In upgrading NIO from Sell to Neutral earlier this month, Goldman Sachs analyst Fei Fang explained what he had gotten wrong about the Chinese EV landscape. Penetration has been much faster than expected: Fang now expects EVs to account for 20% of new car sales in China in 2025, up from 5% in 2020, hitting the higher mark four years earlier than he had anticipated. NIO is expected to turn profitable in 2022 and earn 79 cents a share in 2023. XPeng is likely to lose money in 2022; Li could make 20 cents a share. Visions of higher profits—and comparisons with Tesla, which fetches 117 times 2022 estimated earnings—have helped stoke investor enthusiasm for Chinese EV stocks, which now sport market capitalizations approaching those of traditional auto makers. NIO is valued at about $58 billion; XPeng, at $35 billion; and Li at $28 billion. General Motors (GM) has a market cap of $61 billion, and Ford Motor ’s (F) is $36 billion. GM, Ford, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCAU) together sell more than 17 million vehicles a year. XPeng, NIO, and Li might crack 100,000 in 2020. NIO declined to comment on the stock’s ascent or its valuation, although Rui Chen, director of investor relations, says, “We are encouraged by our momentum and [the] positive progress of our fundamentals.” XPeng declined to make executives available for this story, and Li didn’t respond to Barron’s emails and calls. High valuations aren’t a reason to sell a stock—just ask anyone who bet against Tesla, whose shares have soared about 650% this year. But China’s EV upstarts face potential risks that don’t appear to be factored into their stock prices. Subsidies, for instance, were due to be cut in 2020, until the pandemic hit. With vehicle sales plummeting 79% in February from a year earlier, the government reversed course and extended EV subsidies, helping sales revive. Subsidy cuts aren’t off the table, however. Direct-purchase subsidies are expected to fall 10%, 20%, and 30%, respectively, over each of the next three years from 2019 levels, according to XPeng’s regulatory filings. Competition also is heating up. NIO, XPeng, and Li are selling everything they can build and trying to ramp up production, but their inability to do so quickly enough could leave an opening for other auto makers. BYD (1211.Hong Kong), already a large player in China, is planning new EVs for the Chinese market in 2021, as are GM, Volkswagen (VOW3.Germany), and BMW (BMW.Germany), among others. China is also a critical market for Tesla, which sold about 22,000 Model 3 sedans there in November, and just received approval to sell its Chinese-built Model Y crossover. The company’s China operations are worth around $100 billion, according to Wedbush analyst Dan Ives. That’s enough to make Tesla China the third-most-valuable auto maker in the world. Based on its total market value of $578 billion, Tesla is the world’s most richly valued car company. In downgrading XPeng stock on Dec. 3 from Buy to the equivalent of Hold, UBS analyst Paul Gong cited the possibility of “intensified headwinds faced by [the] XPeng P7 in light of Tesla Model Y launches and BYD Han’s competitive pricing in the larger-size segment.” Gong puts XPeng’s “fundamental” value at $40 a share, based on a discounted cash-flow analysis. But his stock-price target, $59, is benchmarked to Tesla’s current 12-month forward market value to sales. The gap between his price target and fundamental-value estimate is another thing that might give investors pause. Gong didn’t respond to Barron’s calls or emails. Accounting issues, too, have surfaced at two Chinese EV makers. In filings this year with the Securities and Exchange Commission, both XPeng and Li identified what they called material weaknesses in accounting controls. Both cited insufficient staff with an understanding of accounting principles followed by U.S. corporations. In a prospectus for a secondary stock offering filed on Dec. 7, XPeng said it was implementing changes to address the problem. The possible risks are twofold: Accounting errors can lead to subsequent restatement of a company’s financial results, something investors generally frown upon. But the issue could be more fraught now that the House of Representatives has unanimously passed a bill, approved earlier by the Senate, that could lead to the delisting of Chinese companies from U.S. stock exchanges if their accounting isn’t compliant with U.S. audit oversight rules within three years. NIO has said it believes it is in compliance with the new law. The aforementioned risks don’t pose an immediate threat to Chinese EV stocks, but current valuations leave little margin for error. All three companies have sold stock in secondary offerings this year, taking advantage of the strong market to raise more cash. Li sold more shares on Dec. 4, just 127 days after its IPO, for $29 apiece, and XPeng sold stock on Dec. 9 for $45 a share. NIO sold stock at $17 in August, and filed Thursday to sell more. Holders of NIO, XPeng, and Li might want to follow the companies’ lead. China’s EV ambitions are grand, and offer enormous potential for profits. But chances are investors will get a cheaper entry point in shares of these companies somewhere down the road. Source: Barron's submitted by /u/coolcomfort123 [link] [comments]

Why Day Trading is a Loser’s Game
When I first started stock trading at the ripe age of 15 years old, it was because I had lost over $3,000 of my roughly $5,000 in life savings from mowing lawns in the dot-com crash. The technology focused mutual funds my parents had invested me in had plummeted in value. As a result of this traumatic experience, I wanted to take charge of my financial future and not leave it in the hands of an actively managed mutual fund. With no concept of day trading costs, order execution quality, let alone a fear for losing, I sold the mutual funds, opened a custodian account at TD Ameritrade, and quickly started crushing the market. Over the course of three years I took my portfolio of several thousand and ran it up to nearly $100,000. I was the man. When I reached my peak portfolio value at age 18, I was a freshman in college with three monitors on my dorm room desk, skipping class and day trading for friends live. I then lost $72,000 in one trade and realized there was a lot more to stock trading than meets the eye. Now at the ripe old age of 33, 18 years of market “experience” has helped me realize that I was a statistic in a game that never ends. Just like rolling heads ten times in a row, my luck streak ran out and I gave most of what I had earned back to the market. Looking back, here are ten hard facts I wish I had understood about day trading professionally when I got started. 10. The “lifestyle” of a successful day trader is a big fat lie Yachts, women (men for those ladies pursuing the dream), private jets and business class, presidential suites, fancy cars, 10k stacks, mansions, etc all encompass what is presented as the “dream day trader lifestyle”. The dream advertised by stock picking subscription services, Twitter and Instagram accounts, etc. are all built on a foundation of sand. Sadly, it’s all clever marketing and not a reality. FACT: 99.9% of stock picking service providers make more money from their subscriptions and product sales than they do their own trading. They are able to live the, “lifestyle” because of us and our desire to day trade part-time or make some money on the side or get rich investing. Without you, those stock picking services wouldn’t exist. The next time you see a trading service trying to sell you on a monthly chat room subscription, day trading education course, DVD, or live trading lessons, look around the site and see if they have audited tax records of their returns listed anywhere. They won’t. The only difference between you and them is that they figured out #9 and #8 below before you and decided to pursue a career in education and, “giving back” to help you out. This includes sharing their daily stock picks and lessons for a monthly fee. Lesson: Professional trading is not for the faint of heart and rarely includes the, “lifestyle” portrayed on the web and social media. 9. You really need at least a $1,000,000 portfolio to trade full-time To trade for a living, you need a large bankroll. Why? Because you can’t just assume you will have profitable years forever. You also have to consider trading expenses (commissions), drawing a salary to pay bills, alongside paying taxes on all those short term capital gains. When you’re young and single, you can keep costs down. Heck, I was living on less than a $100 per month food budget at one point to pursue the dream. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average American under 25 spends $2,531 per month or $30,372 per year. As you age, your expenses naturally go up. Now you may thinking, “Blain, there is thing called leverage.” Yes, there are ways to leverage your portfolio. With a $25,000 margin account and pattern day trader status, you can trade up to $100,000 (4x) in securities per day and hold up to $50,000 (2x) overnight. It’s a gift and a curse. The stakes are much higher. Looking at some basic math, let’s say your single and under 25. Your cost of living should be on average $30,372 per year and your tax rate is effectively zero. To break even on a $1 million portfolio, you would need to return 3.1% a year. With a $100,000 portfolio, you are talking about a 31% return. Again, just to break even. Mind you, this doesn’t include trading costs, research, trading subscriptions, etc. which can easily total thousands of dollars a year. Even if you had an unbelievable year and returned 50% on a $100,000 portfolio, you are only building your bankroll +$14,769 for next year ($50,000 – $4,859 taxes – $30,372 avg cost of living). Again, not including trading costs. If that wasn’t daunting enough, the above assumes you never have a down month, let alone a down year. To live, you need to take draws every month (another piece of wisdom I realized after the fact), which means you need to win… constantly. Shrinking your portfolio base even 10% is a serious hurdle to overcome. Lesson: You can get started with as little as a few thousand dollars, but don’t get suckered into attempting to trade for a living unless you have at least a $1,000,000 portfolio. When you factor in the swings of trading, taxes, cost of living, and time, its seriously david vs goliath math. 8. The odds are stacked against you There are many very smart people out there. With a global stock market cap of $69 trillion, there is a lot of money at stake and endless resources put into research. YOU: Go to the mall on the weekend, walk into a Lululemon store, see a lot of people paying full price for yoga pants. The “aha” moment, this place is packed. You use your mobile trading app to scan a tag, discover “LULU” as the ticker symbol, talk to the sales clerk about how sales have been, then quickly buy some shares on your phone. INSTITUTIONAL FUND: Knows the founders and has regular calls with the CFO. Their research staff calls Lululemon stores across the country, as well as suppliers, and pulls data nationwide to determine how the numbers are really lining up. They then analyze to determine that margins are being contracted despite strong sales growth and sell the stock heading into its next earnings call. To take this full circle, guess what happened to Lululemon after it’s most recent earnings (Sept. 8, 2020) DESPITE positive chatter from traders and analysts? -16.41% the next day. Here’s what one research group, FBR Capital, had to say post Lululemon earnings: “Firm notes the key 2Q issue was the GM miss relative to guidance/expectations, which reflected incremental port-delay-related/material liability costs and potentially a greater-than-expected mix shift to lower-margin categories (men’s, women’s fashion). Of foremost go-forward concern is a +55% increase in inventories, which, in addition to sales higher-cost units, is likely a factor in its lower 3Q guide relative to the Street. While there is some in-transit/early delivery noise, LULU has to move through a significant amount of product in 2H15 to normalize sales/inventories.” Is that what your research pulled up too? Doubt it. Lesson: Don’t ever think for a second that you can outsmart the market. There is always someone out there that knows more than you. 7. The 5% rule Allocate no more than 5% of your portfolio to personal trading and invest the rest in low cost index funds. An oldie but a goody, the Wall Street Journal had a weekend feature back in 2013 titled, Investing for the Fun of It. Here’s an excerpt: "Win or lose, the key to using play money safely is to make sure it involves a sum the investor can live without." “Enjoy the fun of gambling and the thrill of the chase, but not with your rent money and certainly not with college education funds for your children, nor with your retirement nest egg,” John Bogle, Vanguard’s founder, wrote in “The Little Book of Common Sense Investing,” published in 2007. Mr. Bogle wrote that what he called “funny money” should amount to no more than 5% of a person’s investments. Some experts put the limit lower. Mr. Malkiel says it depends upon the investor’s individual circumstances. Getting the proportion wrong is one risk. Another is that an investor will lose, for example, 5% of his or her money and think, “I was so, so close. Let me take another 5%,” Mr. Statman says. The temptation to keep on trying to win is common, he says, and some people find it hard to resist. Lesson: Your long term future is more important than your short term desire to get rich overnight. Trade with no more than 5% of your portfolio and invest the rest in low cost index funds. 6. The power of compounded returns Compounded returns really make a difference. You may think that 5% – 10% returns are boring, but over the course of decades it stacks up. Let’s run some hypothetical examples. Example A: $10,000 starting portfolio, $2,000 added per year with a 5% return per year. After 35 years, total contributions equal $80,000. End portfolio value, $235,800.77. Gross return, +$155,000 (+195%). Example B: $10,000 starting portfolio, $2,000 added per year with a 9.6% return per year (S&P 500 historical return). After 35 years, total contributions equal $80,000. End portfolio value, $741,930.11. Gross return, +$661,930.11 (+827%). Looking at scenario B with a 4.6% higher annual return, the difference is a staggering $506,129.34. Fun fact: over any 20 year period since 1926, the S&P 500 has never returned a loss. Lesson: The earlier you can start investing (ideally in low cost index funds), the better. The power of compounded returns over the course of several decades cannot be underestimated. 5. Taking tips from people “smarter” than you is a terrible idea Hot stock tips are everywhere, and unfortunately no matter how experienced you are, it can be really hard to pass up a great buy tip, especially if the person has apparent access to some “behind the scenes” information no one else knows about. FEATURED STORY: Top 5 Penny Stocks to Watch This Week with Gains as Much as 97% Unfortunately, ads like the one above for penny stocks are designed to sucker you in to buy a product or service. These tips are utter junk and will leave your wallet and portfolio bleeding red in the end. Reality: If someone even had a strategy that could consistently return even 11% per year, they’d be rich beyond their wildest dreams and would not need to sell picks. The S&P 500 historical return is 9.6%. Endowments, pension funds, and the like would poor money hand over fist into any fund manager that could consistently generate 1.4% of alpha decade after decade. Lastly, this rule includes Wall Street analysts. Ignore analyst buy/sell recommendations. No one knows what the market is going to do tomorrow, next week, or next year. At best, it’s just an “educated guess” from someone really “smart”. Warren Buffett sums it up best, "With enough insider information and a million dollars, you can go broke in a year." Lesson: No matter how smart they are, the odds are always stacked against you. Pursue stock tips with extreme skepticism. 4. One trade can easily make or break your year (or career) Until you live this first hand, unfortunately it won’t fully hit home. You can spend your whole year seeing small wins and losses. Have an off day, break your rules, and hold a large position into earnings and “wham!”, you might wake up poor the next morning. The opposite is also true. Make a great call, follow your rules, and sell a monster winner that represents over 90% of your gains for the year. Despite dozens or hundreds of uneventful trades over months prior, you’ll be very happy you showed up ready to trade that day. Lesson: Never underestimate the impact a single trade decision can have on your portfolio. 3. Taxes and the costs of trading are a serious hurdle This comes back to #9, but it’s worth breaking down the basics. Here are the key terms to understand: Short term capital gains tax – “Short term capital gains do not benefit from any special tax rate – they are taxed at the same rate as your ordinary income. For 2015, ordinary tax rates range from 10 percent to 39.6 percent, depending on your total taxable income.” – TurboTax Long term capital gains tax – “If you can manage to hold your assets for longer than a year, you can benefit from a reduced tax rate on your profits. For 2014, the long-term capital gains tax rates are 0, 15, and 20 percent for most taxpayers. If your ordinary tax rate is already less than 15 percent, you could qualify for the zero percent long-term capital gains rate. For high-income taxpayers, the capital gains rate could save as much as 19.6 percent off the ordinary income rate.” – TurboTax Trade Commission – Charge to buy or sell stock. Order Execution Quality – Many brokers sell high frequency trading firms the right to “peek” at your order and more or less screw you on your fill. This is called payment for order flow. Despite being $.01 or $.02 per share, poor fill costs can add up real quick when you trade frequently. Out performing the S&P 500 in any given year is a feat in itself, but when you then take into consideration taxes, commission costs, and research (those hot stock pick services, chat rooms, and market newsletters don’t come for free), the game becomes that much more difficult. Lesson: When taxes, commissions, and other costs of trading such as research are taking into consideration, the challenge of outperforming the market year after year as a career are compounded. 2. Confirmation bias and your emotions are your worst enemy Trading is a mental game. The mind is a beautiful thing, and given a runway of endless inspiration data, it can wreak some serious havoc. "Confirmation bias is the tendency to search for, interpret, prefer, and recall information in a way that confirms one’s beliefs or hypotheses while giving disproportionately less attention to information that contradicts it." In the trading world, this means you see a setup or price action and quickly convince yourself to buy or sell. Unfortunately, 99% of the time you should be doing the direct opposite. Technical analysis is one of the worst in provoking this natural human behavior. “Oh, I’ve seen this pattern before, it’s a buy”. There is a reason why online brokers offer dozens and in some cases hundreds of technical indicators. Indicators encourage you to see more “patterns” and trade more frequently. In poker, a player can go on “tilt” and make poor decisions, ultimately losing their stack in a hurry. The same mental dilemma applies to trading. Several quotes from market masters on trading psychology: "The truth is that trading, both successful and unsuccessful, is more about psychology than tactics." – Jack Schwager "I’m always thinking about losing money as opposed to making money. Don’t focus on making money, focus on protecting what you have." – Paul Tudor Jones "Everyone has the brainpower to make money in stocks. Not everyone has the stomach." – Peter Lynch Lesson: Trading is 90% mental and 10% skill. Those who succeed learn to manage risk and trade unemotionally. 1. Passive indexing is the best path forward for 99.9% of Americans Widely regarded as the greatest investor of all time, Warren Buffet understands the market and his advice for the average American is priceless: "It is not necessary to do extraordinary things to get extraordinary results. … By periodically investing in an index fund, the know-nothing investor can actually outperform most investment professionals." Historically speaking, since 1928 the S&P 500 has returned 9.6% per year. By simply buying an ETF like SPY or VOO, you can replicate the performance of the S&P 500 for .095% ($9.50 per $10,000 invested) or .03% ($3 per $10,000 invested), respectively, in expense ratios per year. The same applies for mutual funds like Vanguard’s VFIAX. As far as allocation goes, Warren also keeps it simple, "My advice to the trustee could not be more simple: Put 10% of the cash in short-term government bonds and 90% in a very low-cost S&P 500 index fund. I suggest Vanguard’s. (VFINX)" The numbers don’t lie. Despite staffs of analysts, access to CEOs, CFOs, unlimited capital for research, etc. on average, the majority of hedge funds underperform the market each year. Lesson: Warren Buffett is the greatest investor of all-time. He recommends low cost indexing, instead of market timing, as the best path to long term success. Closing Thoughts For new investors getting started, trading should be a quest for knowledge, not about getting rich. While I have no regrets of investing thousands of hours into the markets over the past 18 years, I’ve had to accept the reality that my retirement portfolio would be further ahead had I understood these truths from the beginning: The “lifestyle” of a successful day trader is a big fat lie You really need at least a $1,000,000 portfolio to trade full-time The odds are dramatically stacked against you Allocate 5% or less of your portfolio to trading (speculating) and invest the rest in low cost index funds The effect of compounded returns over the course of several decades is amazing Taking tips from people “smarter” than you is a terrible idea One trade can easily make or break your year (or career) Taxes and the costs of trading are a serious hurdle Confirmation bias and your emotions are your worst enemy Passive indexing is the best path forward for 99.9% of Americans If your mentality is to use the market as a vehicle to supplement income or get rich, stop yourself, you’re already primed for failure. Day trading is a loser’s game. submitted by /u/JackIsNotInTheBox [link] [comments]

DMYD & Genius Sports: Index for Sports Betting with Massive Tail Winds
Yes I have posted about DMYD previously. Decided to dig deeper, and it has only strengthened my position. Investor presentation linked before DD: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5e33152a051d2e7588f7571c/t/5f98173a9643aa67a4ced693/1603802943090/GSG+PIPE+Presentation+%2827-Oct-2020%29.PDF As everyone has noticed, certain reverse mergers have put investors on notice in 2020. With massive liquidity in the markets today, tons of money has been flowing into speculative reverse merger investments this year. Given that retail investors have no chance to profit from traditional IPOs that hit the market after a 100% run up (ABNB, DASH, AI, U, etc.) reverse mergers have presented an excellent opportunity to evaluate and invest in new companies before they actually hit the market. Personally, I have made fantastic returns through a number of reverse mergers. That being said, not all reverse mergers are created equal. Some legitimate mature companies and high growth disrupters have emerged through reverse mergers: Utz, DraftKings, ChargePoint, OpenDoor, Virgin Galactic, Eos Energy, and Butterfly are just a few examples. However, many reverse mergers are performance chasing the EV hype by pursuing multi billion dollar acquisitions of EV start ups with 0 revenue for the forseeable future. I say good luck. One reverse merger with massive upside potential at a conservative valuation is DMYD-Genius Sports. First, who is DYMD? dMY Technology Group https://www.dmytechnology.com/team is led by CEO Niccolo de Masi, the former CEO of Glu Mobile. De Masi has consummated 25+ mergers and raised more than $1B in funding for various ventures. He seems to have a knack for the mobile/gaming sector, as his first reverse merger: DMYT is taking Rush Street, an igaming company, public. De Masi is a veteran of this sector, which makes Genius Sports Group an interesting target. Who is Genius Sports? Genius Sports Group is one of two large sports data providers (the other being SportRadar) that collects and sells live data to sportsbooks. This is incredibly important, as live betting needs constantly adjusted lines to reflect real time game updates. Genius Sports currently has contracts with the NCAA, PGA, NASCAR, FIBA, EPL, Bundesliga, and NBA, among other leagues, to be their sole or primary data provider. These partnerships have staying power, as these leagues are unlikely to change partners once they are locked in for multiyear contracts. Additionally, acquiring rights to official league data is expensive, thus making a high barrier of entry for new competitors. They have 220 customers including DraftKings, FanDuel, William Hill, MGM, PointsBet, and Caesars. Important to note: Genius takes 5% of revenues of events they cover from ALL sportsbooks. https://geniussports.com/home/partners/ Genius is above other reverse mergers due to its mature market position and strong financials. The company has been growing at a 30% CAGR over the last several years, with revenue growing 250% from 2016 to 2020 ($42M to $145M). 60% of revenue is recurring due to multi year contracts, and the top 10 customers only account for 30% of revenue, thus lowering flight risk of any particular customer. Genius is already EBITDA positive with 10% margins this year, and anticipates $68M in adjusted EBITDA (adjusted to ignore stock based compensation, a non-cash expense) with 29% margins in two years. In a year where sports were disrupted by Covid, Genius still grew revenue from $116M to $145M. They also successfully resigned their contract with the NBA, ensuring a multi-year partnership with the premiere US basketball league. Outside of the betting market, Genius’s ability to aggregate data has led to an interesting agreement with the NCAA. Until 2018, live data with college sports was incredibly inefficient. Genius signed a contract with the NCAA to create a new software: NCAA Livestats https://geniussports.com/sports/sports-management/ncaa-case-study/. This is a uniform software for all divisions of college sports. As a former college athlete myself, I reached out to some of the athletic support staff from my university. They raved about how Genius has improved efficiency and accuracy for college athletics. NCAA Livestats has overhauled the entire industry. I also think the NCAA presents the biggest upside catalyst for Genius: March Madness. March Madness was cancelled due to the pandemic last year, but betters placed $4.8B in bets on the tournament in 2019. Who has a monopoly on NCAA data? Genius. Who gets a 5% revenue share from ALL sports books for NCAA events? Genius. With the number of states with legalized betting doubling from 2018 to 2020, we could see upwards of $10B spent on March Madness this year. Along with March Madness, secular tailwinds for sports betting suggest high upside for Genius moving forward. 46 out of 50 states have either passed or presented legislation to legalize sports betting. As states such as NY, CA, TX, and FL legalize betting, revenues streams will swell. Data will become increasingly important in this industry as live updates are constantly moving betting lines for books. With multi-year contracts with half of the US’s professional leagues, Genius serves as an index for the entire industry. Additionally, with Pfizer’s vaccine approval, there is little to no risk of massive sports cancellations in the future. Genius still grew revenue during Covid’s massive disruption. I imagine that the revenue numbers for 2021 will be fantastic. Now let’s focus on the stock movement and valuation. Genius is valued as $1.4B, or 7.4x 2021 revenues. For a company with high CAGR and an industry with massive tailwinds, this seems like a fair, or cheap valuation. Note that Genius is trading at a steep discount to lower margin businesses such as sportsbooks Golden Nugget, DraftKings, and Penn. While investors have been chasing the next hot EV IPO, Genius has slowly climbed from $10 to $13. Last summer, a rumored FEAC-SportRadar merger led to FEAC pumping to $15+. SportRadar was worth $2.8B in 2018, presenting 60% upside from Genius’ current price to reach its competitor’s 2018 valuation! DMYD and Genius announced their merger in late October during a market downturn, thus letting it go overlooked. I think this is a sleeper reverse merger that will have a massive influx of news in Q1, as its merger aligns with the climax of college basketball and the beginning of March Madness. A single Benzinga article pumped the stock by almost 20% last week. Imagine the upside when the broader market realizes they can invest in the data behind the sports betting industry. Personally, I am long $166k in DMYD stock, and have no intention of selling anytime soon. Always do your own DD, but I hope this post helps. submitted by /u/BarmeIo-Xanthony [link] [comments]

My experiences of day trading/investing for my first 3 months.
I started 3 months ago with little to no knowledge, thinking I could start day trading and begin to grow my initial funds exponentially. I opened up a Trading212 account and deposited £80.00. For the first month or so, I was day trading... Making multiple purchase and sell orders every day. I saw my balance grow to £90.00 at points and shrink to £70.00 at other points. During this time, I was learning about candle sticks and how to read graphs and how typical bullish/bearish markets looked like and became determined to become a day trader. After many trades and probably being up by a few pence, I realised day trading wasn't where it's at and began to "invest" for longer periods of time. I invested in amazon, pfizer, square inc to name a few varying from a week to 2 months. My investment strategy was working well, I was up by quite a few quid... Until I wasn't. I live in the UK and trade with GBP, but the stocks I was buying were US stocks using USD... The dollar (or pound?) dropped and negated the profit I was currently making on the increase in stock price, so I decided to sell everything and reevaluate my approach. (This is where I'm at currently).. I want to invest in UK companies with more knowledge/intention and hold for much, much longer than I have been. Long story short, my balance now stands at £81.53. I have profited £1.53 during my 3 months of trial and error and learning through making mistakes. I ask you lot, is this how any of your started? How can I improve myself? Share your experiences! Cheers mates 😂 submitted by /u/WoodenStaffy [link] [comments]

ALPP - What the Acquisition of Vayu Drones Means
The acquisition of Vayu Drones is HUGE news and in my opinion and should be the greatest catalyst for this stock moving forward. In my prior posts I spoke about Impossible Aerospace and their US-1’s use for military application, fire departments, police departments etc. Goldman Sach’s see’s even larger opportunities for scale in… Construction Agriculture Insurance Claims Offshore Oil/Gas and refining Coast Guard Customs and Border Patrol Real Estate & More The acquisition of Vayu is incredibly interesting because it launches them forward in the most profitable drone sector of them all….COMMERCIAL DRONE USAGE. QUICK FACTS ON VAY: 44lb payload capacity drone TESLA FOUNDER’S Martin Eberhard and Marc Terpenning are heavy investors Partnership with Bill & Melinda Gates foundation Partnership with Verizon Vayu Drones are remarkable in their payload capacity with the G1 having 12lb capacity and the G2 boasting an impressive 44lbs of payload. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/alpine-4-technologies-ltd-alpp-adds-to-its-commercial-drone-holdings-with-its-acquisition-of-vayu-us-inc-301198626.html The drones are currently used in 3rd world countries to deliver medical supplies and other goods to poor villages that are difficult to access by roads. These drones have saved lives as they are able to transport samples to medical staff and deliver medicine/vaccines quickly and efficiently. https://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/video/doctors-drones-drop-medical-supplies-madagascar-46880863 The drones are autonomous, so they can be launched from a site, land in the desired destination, then return to launching point without having an experienced UAV pilot. This autonomous programming will be huge for distribution and fulfillment centers in the future. Think amazon and having the ability to have an army of drones at a warehouse that can autonomously leave and deliver packages of up to 44lbs, then return to the warehouse. Food deliveries are also a potential usage for these drones though I feel the cost would have to come down substantially. The combination of Impossible Aerospace and Vayu drones under one room is mind-boggling. You now have battery patents and technology that lead to flight times 3x that of competitors accompanied with patents and technology that lead to 44 POUND payloads. Having shared technology between the two companies will lead to the largest and most impressive drone company in the United States. You now have max flight time AND max payload. Impossible Aerospace’s Spencer Gore (former TSLA battery engineer) is now joined by 2 of the founders of Tesla in what is sure to be a monumental UAV company. People of this caliber do not end up together at a company that is going no where. More military and civil contracts are almost guaranteed to be acquired by ALPP but I’m especially excited about the development of technology to unleash the inevitable beast in widespread commercial drone usage. Would love to hear everyones thoughts on this. Keep in mind I’m not a financial advisor so do your DD lol submitted by /u/MaesterOogway [link] [comments]

Congratulations on 1 MILLION subscribers, r/stocks!
HEY VEGETA, IT'S OVER ONE MILLION! Happy one million subscribers, r/stocks Reddit community! Yes, today this Reddit community has officially crossed that unthinkable subscriber count. Oh my! OK OK, first things first -- I need to give some cred where credit is most certainly overdue here. Most notably to, /u/provoko and to /u/GoldenChrysus for running this amazingly awesome stock community! And to the rest of the staff team here as well of course! :) It has been a pretty interesting past couple of years, especially this year. :P Well, I won't make this too lengthy of a congrats post like I normally do at some other subreddit communities, but I really just did want to extend a humongous THANK YOU to the entire r/stocks community here. I have been a regular on here (mostly nowadays just posting up those weekend market week ahead threads) and I can tell y'all's first hand that this is one helluva stock Reddit community IMHO. The members here are incredibly welcoming, and knowledgeable. And best of all, extremely helpful to all the new arrivals! Truth be told here, but outside of my own subreddit community, this is indeed my most favorite of all on Reddit! It's just a real chill place to hang out, chatting with members who enjoy similar interests, like trading and investing. :) I'm personally really grateful for this community honestly, cannot stress that enough. It's also pretty cool that this milestone is happening so close to the New Year! Anyway, keep up the great work around here r/stocks community, and to the entire staff team here. You guys are a bunch of cool chaps here. ;) Thanks for having me too, have really enjoyed my years here! Catch y'all's in the new year! Happy 1 million subscribers r/stocks!! submitted by /u/bigbear0083 [link] [comments]

I sold NIO when they were 1.78$ and missed out on their meteoric rise
I'm killing myself over this. I learned about NIO over two years ago when they were featured on 60 Minutes and was one of the first active users on r/Nio. Back then, the stock was 10$, and I bought 500 shares. But after their IPO, they had a rough year with declining sales. Despite that, I kept buying in to eventually accumulate 3,200 shares at an average price of 3.12$. But then came more bad news and worse sales. People were talking about the company running out of cash and the stock going to 0$, and they did eventually hit 1.00$. I sold at 1.78$ before that happened and took my 57% loss. I've only been investing for two years, but it's my biggest regret so far. I should have never listened to some asshole at Bloomberg getting paid to write negative articles and trusted my gut. NIO is a solid company and is going to be one the leaders in the Chinese and global EV market. They completely restructured after those losses (Nio Places vs. Nio Houses, fired staff, etc.), and those 3,200 shares are worth over 150,000$ today. They'll be worth even more in the future. All I can do now is take this as a learning experience, but I feel like I'll never find another stock like them. Sigh ... submitted by /u/vacuum_potential [link] [comments]

Smartsheet (NYSE: SMAR) – Deep Dive Research – Part 1
TL:DR is at the bottom Hello, welcome to my second deep dive write up. My name’s Mark and I’m an accountant with a passion for investing. About two years ago, I used to work as an auditor at a public accounting firm and have been behind the scenes at many different publicly traded and privately held companies in the U.S. My goal is to bring my unique perspective from that past experience, my current experience working in a new role at a large corporation, and my understanding of accounting to help break down some of the most exciting growth stocks on the market today. I’m a long-term investor. I am focused on finding great companies and holding them for a long time. I’m willing to endure volatility, crazy price drops, and everything that comes with this approach as long as the facts that led me to originally invest and believe in that company have not changed. If you want to learn more about this approach. I recommend reading the book “100 Baggers” by Chris Mayer. Introduction I’m excited to share with you all my stock pick for this month, Smartsheet. I’m always looking for investment ideas. I run stock screeners with different criteria (mostly focused on revenue growth), scan Twitter, talk to professionals in different industries, and try to observe what products or services are getting popular with my friends and family. One of the best investment decisions I’ve made to date came after I talked to my friend about a drink he was drinking on the golf course. Shout out to you Celsius (CELH)! With that being said, you never know where your next good investment idea is going to come from. In the case of Smartsheet, I became aware of the company through a stock screener. I was drawn to the relatively small market cap ($8.6B), strong revenue growth (roughly 35%), and the fact that it’s a subscription business model (SaaS). Once I became aware of these facts, it cued me to take a deeper dive. The more I learned about Smartsheet, the more I liked. Management talks a lot about empowering people and that really struck a chord with me. In different roles I’ve had as a teacher, tutor, and supervisor, I’ve always found empowering people to be one of the most important keys to success. I will touch on this more later in the write up. Another positive signal I got about Smartsheet came unexpectedly one evening. I was sitting in the kitchen and my girlfriend was cooking dinner. I was watching an interview on my phone with Mark Mader, the CEO of Smartsheet. My girlfriend overheard the word “Smartsheet” mentioned in the video and said “Are they talking about the Smartsheet with the blue check mark?”. I had to Google their logo but yes, it turns out we were thinking about the same Smartsheet. I asked her how she knew about it. She said “My company just transitioned all of our work onto Smartsheet. I really love it. Our marketing department is really excited about it because it makes their job way easier and more enjoyable.” Hearing this just motivated me to learn more about Smartsheet. The Thesis Statement For every stock pick I make, I want to provide a quick thesis statement that can serve as a reminder for why I’m buying and holding that stock for the long term. I’ll always aim to make it just a few sentences long so it can easily be remembered and internalized. This helps during times when the price may sporadically drop and you need to remember why you’re holding this position. The thesis statement I have come up with for Smartsheet is as follows: “Smartsheet: A leader in collaborative work management (CWM) software. As the global workforce becomes more decentralized through remote work, managers and executives now more than ever need a tool to digitally consolidate their teams, projects and deadlines. Smartsheet is that tool and is innovating to offer businesses even more ways to get the most out of their teams.” I think this thesis statement really captures the essence of what Smartsheet does. If you go to Smartsheet’s website and look at the “About” page, you will find their “About” statement which says “Smartsheet is the enterprise platform for dynamic work that aligns people and technology so your entire business can move faster, drive innovation, and achieve more.” Notice how their statement emphasizes helping businesses move faster, drive innovation, and achieve more. In my thesis statement, I mention that Smartsheet is a leader in the CWM software space. But how do I know this? Well, a highly reputable independent research firm named Forrester conducted a study on the CWM space based off different criteria including collaboration, enterprise capabilities, UI/user experience, planned enhancements and number of customers just to name a few of the factors considered. I put the companies that were identified from the study in the order of their ranking below. As you can see, Smartsheet is firmly planted as a leader in the space at 2nd place. Let’s use our common sense for a second. At the beginning stages of a remote work revolution, do we want to invest in an up and coming SaaS company that focuses on providing firms with resources to digitally manage their teams, digitally manage work/projects, and digitally collaborate to get work done? I think the answer should be a resounding yes. But what about these other companies on the list. Let’s break them down 1 by 1: Workfront was recently bought by Adobe. If you want to invest in Workfront, you’d have to invest in the much larger company of Adobe. It wouldn’t be a pure play investment into the CWM space. Smartsheet is 2nd and of course, they are public :) Wrike is private ServiceNow – CWM is just one small piece of their total offerings. Investing here would not be a pure play into the CWM space. Also, the company is already quite large ($106B market cap) Asana is public but just IPO’d on 9/30/20 about 3 months ago. We don’t have much data to track their performance as a publicly traded company. Furthermore, although they actually would be a pure play investment into the CWM space, they’re not a leader and rank behind Smartsheet in several of Forrester’s categories. Why invest in the 2nd best when you can invest in the best? Monday.com is private Microsoft – CWM is just one small piece of their total offerings. Investing here would not be a pure play into the CWM space. Atlassian – This company does primarily focus on CWM but I have a couple problems with them as an investment. 1) They’re ranked way beneath Smartsheet. 2) They’re already too big for me to confidently say they can 10x (market cap already $58B). Now that we’ve established that Smartsheet is a leader in the CWM space and that they’re arguably the best publicly available pure-play investment in this space let’s understand why this is important. Other than the obvious reason that we’re in the beginning stages of a remote work revolution, why is this important? Well, let’s take a look at this quote from Mark Mader, Smartsheet CEO, during the last earnings call (Q3 FY21) that occurred on December 7th, 2020: “Leaders are recognizing they need to shift more workloads to asynchronous work, work that is documented, automated, tracked with dashboards, and where priorities are clearly defined. They understand that by empowering their teams with no-code solutions that facilitate asynchronous work, cycle times will be improved, a deeper sense of ownership will be created, and prioritization and accountability will be insured. Smartsheet is ideally suited to help enterprises work more asynchronously to derive the benefits from doing so.” Key word here: Asynchronous. Asynchronous communication is different from Synchronous communication. Here is the difference: Asynchronous: email, message boards, dashboards, etc. Synchronous: video conferencing, chat, audio calls, etc. Any communication that doesn’t require a real-time response can be considered asynchronous, like the examples in the picture above. Synchronous communication is any communication that happens in real time, thereby allowing for immediate responses, see examples above. As part of my research on Smartsheet, I read an E-Book that was written by the original co-founders of Smartsheet, Mark Mader the current CEO and Brent Frei who is no longer with the company. They wrote the E-Book in 2007 just a couple of years after the 2005 founding. The E-Book is called “The Power of Done”. The moral of the book is that Mark and Brent noticed through their own experience, and through different research studies on work place productivity, that the rise in technology in the early 21st century was actually making employees less productive. This is a quote from their E-Book: “According to Basex, a research firm focusing on the knowledge economy, interruptions from email, cell phones, instant messaging, text messaging and blogs eat up nearly 30 percent of each day; on an annualized basis, this represents a loss of 28 billion hours for the entire U.S. workforce, or a $588 billion cost to the American economy.” They mention in their book that although there has been a lot of advances in work technology such as email, word processing, and spreadsheets, there hadn’t at that time been any great applications created for teamwork collaboration or task management. The fact that technology advances helped the world create tools to enhance productivity but also deterred productivity at the same time is what Mark and Brent referred to as the productivity paradox. They wanted to do something about it and thus they founded Smartsheet. How Smartsheet makes money At the very least, before you invest in a company, you better understand how they make money. In Chris Mayers’ excellent book, 100 Baggers, that I mentioned above, he continually references top line revenue growth as one of the main common indicators of a possible 100 Bagger. This isn’t to tell you that any stock I pick will be a 100 Bagger just because it has great top line revenue growth, but if I am looking at a growth stock to hold for the long term, revenue growth is one of the first things I look at. Before I talk about the revenue streams of Smartsheet, I want to share a little bit about the actual product that they sell to earn this revenue. Co-Founder/CEO Mark Mader realized that a lot of work in the corporate world was being done on spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel. However, he realized that these spreadsheets were largely static and not necessarily used to their full potential. He wanted to help people get more out of their use of spreadsheets. As a result, we now have Smartsheets which is a cloud based platform that can be accessed by all employees of the company no matter where they are with live information about project statuses, meeting times and work that is assigned to each employee just to name a few uses. Users can choose their way of viewing this information with different views such as calendar view, grid view, card view, and Gantt view. The idea is that by enhancing the availability and quality of asynchronous information available to all members of a team about the status of a project, the tasks assigned, and the timelines, the less synchronous communication will be needed which allows employees to spend more time doing what they’re hired to do – get work done. Think about how wasteful it is to hire a highly talented engineer but then make him spend half his day preparing for and doing status update meetings and hunting people down to see where they’re at with their assignments. What if all this information was available for him, his managers, and his staff to see within Smartsheet without having to bother each other and waste precious work hours that could be used for coding, designing, and producing? That’s what Smartsheet looks to achieve. For Smartsheet, their means of making money is quite simple. As I mentioned earlier, they are a Software as a Service (SaaS) company. Whenever you see SaaS, that means subscription revenue and in my opinion that’s a very good thing. With a subscription business model, the revenue is going to be recurring every year and that type of reliability (combined with growth of course) is something you want as an investor. Smartsheet’s primary source of revenue is the sale of subscriptions to their cloud-based Collaborative Work Management (CWM) platform. Customers and potential customers begin their engagement with the Smartsheet platform by either signing up for a free trial, purchasing a subscription on the Smartsheet website, going through a sales rep, or they are exposed to Smartsheet by collaborating with a Company/Individual that uses Smartsheet. For subscriptions, customers select the plan that meets their needs and can begin using Smartsheet within minutes. Smartsheet offers four subscription levels: Individual, Business, Enterprise, and Premier, the pricing for which varies by the capabilities provided. Customers can also purchase connectors, which provide data integration and automation to third-party applications. The Connectors part of the business is something I find really interesting. Basically, Smartsheet has made deals with most of the top work productivity and communication software companies in the world to allow their customers to use those applications within their Smartsheet user interface. This helps position Smartsheet as the true “command center” platform while the products of the other companies become ancillary pieces. You’ll see this on the link above but some products that Smartsheet sells Connectors for include Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Salesforce, Jira Software, Slack, and Skype just to name a few. I think that being able to sell these Connectors as ancillary pieces to the Smartsheet user experience is so beneficial to Smartsheet because a lot of these companies that people may perceive as “Smartsheet competitors” actually become a piece of the Smartsheet platform and can be sold by Smartsheet as a supplemental revenue stream. This neutral angle that Smartsheet is able to come from by selling Connectors to their perceived “competitors” reminds me a little bit of how Roku (ROKU) is able to earn revenue off of selling a Netflix subscription on their platform. I think just the fact that all these big companies like Adobe, Jira, Salesforce, etc. allow their products to be integrated into Smartsheet shows that there is a high value proposition in the Smartsheet platform and that they would risk alienating their customers if they didn’t allow for their products to be integrated with Smartsheet. On top of the Connectors to third party vendors that Smartsheet is able to sell, Smartsheet is also able to sell upgrades to their own internal plug-ins. Smartsheet has some impressive proprietary plug-ins they can sell to their customers. For example, in May 2019, Smartsheet acquired 10,000ft which augmented their product portfolio by providing resource allocation and planning. The name “10,000ft” is meant to be analogous to having a high level view of your company and all resources available within your company and how to deploy them. Also, in September 2020, Smartsheet acquired Brandfolder, Inc. which provides a centralized platform to organize, discover, control, distribute, and measure all forms of digital content. Combining Brandfolder capabilities with Smartsheet allows them to create dynamic solutions that manage workflows around content and collaboration. This goes back to what I said earlier in the article about how my girlfriend had mentioned that her company’s marketing team was “really excited about Smartsheet because it makes their job way easier and more enjoyable.” She told me that before Smartsheet, her company’s marketing team had to constantly hunt down members of the creative team (photographers, graphic designers) to receive the latest photos, videos, and digital designs they were working on. She said it was a big pain for them trying to share this content over email and SharePoint. Now, all of the content is inside of Smartsheet and the marketing team can access it at any time. They can leave comments on the content, route to appropriate individuals for approvals, and have better insight into the status of all digital content that is being worked on. The acquisition of Brandfolder is really what allows Smartsheet to stand out in this department. Nobody really talks about it, but digital content is so important these days for companies in terms of controlling their brand image, putting out quality advertisements, and presenting their product in as positive of a light as possible. The fact that Smartsheet has a strong proprietary plug-in for this with Brandfolder is very promising. During Smartsheet’s FY21 Engage Customer Conference, Anna Griffin, Smartsheet Chief Marketing Officer said that the global annual marketing spend is $500B for companies around the world. She said the role of the marketing department is changing from sole content creator to Editor in Chief. All kinds of teams within companies these days are putting out content that effects the company’s brand. Sales is running social media campaigns, product marketing is putting out blog posts and podcasts, and R&D is teasing new product experiences in app. It can get really difficult for the company’s Marketing/Branding team to stay on top of all this without a centralized digital content collaboration platform like Brandfolder in Smartsheet. This is just one reason why I think Smartsheet has a lot of growth opportunities in the future. As you can see, Smartsheet has a lot to offer to companies with their core CWM platform, the Connectors they can sell, and the internal upgrades available such as 10,000ft and Brandfolder. On top of that, Smartsheet also provides WorkApps, a proprietary no-code platform that empowers users to build intuitive web and mobile applications that streamline business and simplify collaboration. There are so many instances within companies where an app needs to be built to streamline a workflow. Traditionally, companies need to engage their IT departments and the coders that sit within these departments to build these apps. This places a lot of strain on IT departments and takes away time they can be spending on more complex/mission critical projects. Mark Mader is aware of this and thus is heavily pushing no-code as a solution for companies now and in the future. He believes that everyday non-coder employees know their jobs/workflows best and thus if you empower them to build their own apps with a no-code platform they will produce better and more relevant apps to help get work done than an IT department employee who doesn’t even do the job that the app is being built for. Also, he believes this will reduce strain on IT departments and allow them to focus on more complex and mission critical projects. Here is a quote from the Director of Sales (Hina Patel) at a Smartsheet customer, Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO): “I have been waiting for a solution like WorkApps that can give us quick and easy access to the content we need, when and where we need it,” said Hina Patel, Director of Sales Operations at Cisco. “The ability to take our Smartsheet assets, along with other tools we use, and package an entire solution in an intuitive app will make it even easier to drive active participation from everyone involved in the process, no matter their role.” As you can see, the value proposition of WorkApps and the Smartsheet platform appears to be high. Lastly, Smartsheet also generates revenue from Professional Services which is essentially providing training and customized consulting to Smartsheet customers that want to get more out of the Smartsheet platform. In the most recent quarter, Q3 FY21, Professional Services accounted for 8.2% of revenue. Here is the breakout from the most recent quarter: Subscription revenue = $90,890M for 91.8% of total revenue Professional services revenue = $8,043M for 8.2% of total revenue This is the end of my first article about Smartsheet. My goal is to drop Part 2 within the next week. The focus of Part 2 will be an in depth answer of the question – “Can we 10x from here?” TL:DR This is Part 1 of my two part deep dive on Smartsheet (Ticker: SMAR). This first part introduces you to (1) me, (2) the company, (3) my thesis on the company, and (4) digs into how they make money. Part 2 (to be released later this week) will go in depth to explore the question “Can we 10x from here?” If you enjoyed this article and want to make sure you catch Part 2, subscribe here. Smartsheet is an exciting SaaS company that’s helping businesses be more productive and get the most out of their people I am not a financial advisor and this is not investment advice. These are just my opinions to help facilitate learning and discussion. Disclosure: I have no position in Smartsheet. I do plan to initiate a long position when the markets open again in 2021. Today's Pre-Market Movers & News [Thursday, January 7th, 2021]
Good morning traders and investors of the r/stocks sub! Welcome to Thursday. Here are your pre-market movers & news this AM- Today's Top Headlines for Thursday, January 7th, 2021 1. Dow set to add to Wednesday’s record despite Capitol turmoil U.S. stock futures rose Thursday, a day after the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at a record high despite the turmoil at the Capitol. Early Thursday, outgoing President Donald Trump said in a statement there “will be an orderly transition” of power, shortly after Congress confirmed President-elect Joe Biden’s win. Economists expect an increase in initial jobless claims, when the Labor Department reports its weekly numbers at 8:30 a.m. ET. With the seven-day average of new daily U.S. Covid infections spiking to a record high, first-time filings for unemployment benefits are seen rising by 28,000 to 815,000 for the week ended Jan. 2. Ahead of Friday’s government employment report, the ADP’s look at December jobs trends at U.S. companies showed a contraction in private-sector positions for the first time since the early days of the coronavirus. Throughout most of the pandemic, the ADP estimates have been below the final government count. 2. 10-year Treasury yield above 1%; bitcoin above $38,000 The 10-year Treasury yield remained above 1% on Thursday morning after projected wins for Democrats in both Senate runoff elections in Georgia. Lightening up on bonds, pushing prices down and yields up, investors bought riskier assets like stocks and bitcoin. The world’s largest cryptocurrency smashed through the $38,000 mark to hit a record high on Thursday as it continued its massive rally. Bitcoin has been up about 29% in the first days of 2021 and is up 380% over the past 12 months. 3. Congress confirms Biden as next president Congress early Thursday confirmed the Electoral College vote for Biden, a day after Trump supporters breached the Capitol in a chaotic effort to avoid the formal recognition that the president lost the election. Shortly after the confirmation, White House spokesman Dan Scavino tweeted Trump’s statement, which promised “an orderly transition on January 20th,” the day of Biden’s inauguration, but also perpetuated the baseless claim that he actually won. Congress’ process of counting Electoral College votes was interrupted Wednesday afternoon when rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol building. A woman who was among the invaders was shot and killed by Capitol Police. Three other people died from medical emergencies. 4. U.S. trade group asks Pence to ‘seriously consider’ invoking 25th Amendment The National Association of Manufacturers, a trade organization representing 14,000 U.S. companies, called on Vice President Mike Pence to “seriously consider” invoking the 25th Amendment of the Constitution to remove Trump from office. Jay Timmons, CEO of the manufacturers group, is a former executive director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. Two Democratic U.S. representatives worked on a letter to Pence requesting he invoke the amendment. Members of Trump’s Cabinet issued harsh rebukes of the violence that unfolded at the Capitol. The officials, however, stopped short of criticizing the president, who had urged his supporters to take action at a pro-Trump rally Wednesday morning. An administration official confirmed to CNBC’s Eamon Javers that National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien and Deputy National Security Advisor Matthew Pottinger are considering resigning over the insurrection. Stephanie Grisham, chief of staff for first lady Melania Trump, and Sarah Matthews, White House deputy press secretary, both resigned Wednesday. Mick Mulvaney, Trump’s former chief of staff, announced on CNBC on Thursday he is resigning as special envoy to Northern Ireland. 5. Democrats win the majority in the Senate During the Capitol siege, Democrat Jon Ossoff was projected as the winner of the second of two Senate runoff elections Tuesday in Georgia. The defeat of Republican David Perdue, whose Senate term expired Sunday, coupled with Democrat Raphael Warnock’s projected victory over Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler, splits the 100 Senate right down the middle. However, Democrats take over the majority as Vice President-elect Kamala Harris would be the tie-breaking vote. After Biden’s inauguration, Democrats will control the Senate, House and the White House. STOCK FUTURES CURRENTLY: (CLICK HERE FOR STOCK FUTURES CHARTS!) I invested half my net worth buying Volkswagen stocks, here's why
The EV market is booming and so are the stocks of new players (Tesla, Nio, etc.). After its last run, Tesla is now worth 9 times Volkswagen (VW). You could argue that there is a bubble and Tesla stocks will go down hard eventually, which is true, at least to some degree. But will it lose 90% of its value and remain at that valuation? I highly doubt that. For those who don't know, VW owns major brands like Škoda, Seat, Audi, Porsche and Lamborghini, among others, so it offers cars in every price segment. ln the last couple of years, VW has invested a lot of money into EV, creating a modular platform for all their brands (MEB) and the core brand released both their ID.3 and ID.4 this year, which were promptly sold out. Now I want to compare Tesla's and VW's chances in a new car market dominated by EV: Advantages Tesla: - Hype, image, design - They were the first movers, which was an advantage because they could focus on their strengths and force competition to follow their lead - current market share in EV - autonomous driving (although 'real' autonomy is still far away and others could catch up/cooperate; https://on.ft.com/38aIV0v) Advantages VW: - experience building cars, quality of production - existing factories with staff (ramping up production numbers is comparatively easy) - existing retail network - different brands offer the opportunity to target their customers more specifically, improving margins Basically, Tesla's biggest problem is production, they can't increase production numbers as fast as the EV market does, so they will lose market share, giving other players a chance to compete. Even though VW was late to the party they are now in a position to overtake them in production and sales in 2021 or 2022 (e.g. Norway, where 52% of cars sold in 2020 were EV. In that segment Audi - owned by VW - surpassed Tesla in sales. Or Germany, where the ID.3 sold extremely well considering that delivery only just started in September). NA is a market VW has historically not been very successful in, that might still be the case in the future, but I am optimistic about the rest of the world. There are other reasons why I think VW will be successful: - the company has remained highly profitable throughout hard times like the emission scandal and Corona, while at the same time investing huge amounts of money into the switch from combustion to EV - if I am not mistaken, they also invested into Fuel cell technology, diversifying risk - VW is market leader in China and Europe, people know and like their vehicles and will continue to buy them The biggest issue VW has is probably software. Like most German companies, they seem to be unable to deliver competitive products in that aspect, but they'll sort it out eventually. Lastly, I want to say that I don't expect VW to rise as much as Tesla did (obviously), yet I expect huge jumps in the future, decreasing the gap in market cap of both companies. Patience is key. I would love to hear if you agree with my analysis or not. Please point out aspects I might have forgotten to take into consideration. submitted by /u/pabs314 [link] [comments]

GPS Stock good 2021 play?
Despite already climbing almost 200% since the announcement of the Yeezy Gap line, I still think GPS can go a lot higher, assuming the US market stays strong into the Biden administration. Kanye is in the news yet again and is poised to remain there throughout the entire year as he potentially splits from Kim Kardashian and rolls out his first ever mass-produced line intended to be affordable and accessible to all. The reality is, I don't think you could possible manufacture more Kanye clothing than what his loyal fanbase will buy up. Kanye's influence over fashion is consistently underestimated and I think this transition will be no different. I think Gap/Old Navy will—if handled right by their marketing and design staff—experience a complete brand recreation with the public. I think it could be a very similar resurgence to what Hanesbrands' Champion pulled off in the last five years, and New Balance as well. Champion used to be the cheap gym sweatshirt, now their basic white or grey hoodie is over $60. New balance 'dad shoes' are cool again. I see no reason why a 'kiddy' brand like Gap can't pull off a very similar comeback once hypebeasts start pairing their YZY Gap with their overpriced joggers and sneakers. The only way I could see this falling through would be if Kanye is never able to bring his clothing to market (which is certainly possible) or that Gap foolishly fails to bring some flavor and energy to their marketing/design team to capitalize on the momentum Kanye will continue to bring. What do you guys think? I bought some shares to hold and also some call options with a reasonable strike. submitted by /u/prettytoney77 [link] [comments]

Thry could mobilize the National Guard to do this, especially where they don't have the staffing to get it done. Well, along with having enough vaccines. https://t.co/yT1NiQTPmy

TLS telos- anyone buying? CyberSecurity
I’ve been following CyberSecurity a bit and have been watching Telos. Anyone believe this company could get a boost under the Biden Administration who supposedly is adding 2 CyberSecurity staff. Was looking at this at $25 now I feel like it is getting away from me at $34. What is everyone’s thoughts? TIA submitted by /u/This-Grape-5149 [link] [comments]

Biden Seeks Quick Start With Executive Actions and Aggressive Legislation
"On his first day in office alone, Mr. Biden intends a flurry of executive orders that will be partly substantive and partly symbolic. They include rescinding the travel ban on several predominantly Muslim countries, rejoining the Paris climate change accord, extending pandemic-related limits on evictions and student loan payments, issuing a mask mandate for federal property and interstate travel and ordering agencies to figure out how to reunite children separated from families after crossing the border, according to a memo circulated on Saturday by Ron Klain, his incoming White House chief of staff, and obtained by The New York Times." Wednesday seems like it could be a good day for climate stocks. Do with this information what you will! submitted by /u/GrapeJuicex [link] [comments]

A government agency is responsible for the largest known #coronavirus workplace outbreak in the UK. Shockingly staff were told to turn off their T&T apps to prevent them getting a ping. There have been over 530 cases. Shameful #ToryIncompetence
